Ivo Kahánek ranks among the most interesting Czech pianists of his generation due to his powerful, profound and highly emotional style. Moreover, he is considered one of the best interpreters of the Romantic repertoire, especially works by Czech composers. A winner at various international piano competitions (Prague Spring, Concurs Internacional de Música Maria Canals Barcelona, Vendôme Prize Wien, Fryderyk Chopin Competition Marienbad), Ivo Kahánek has performed with such great ensembles as BBC Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek), Berliner Philharmoniker (conducted by Sir Simon Rattle), Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Wiener Symphoniker, WDR Sinfonieorchester and Zürcher Kammerorchester. Ivo also loves chamber music and has performed with violinist Daniel Hope, cellist Alissa Weilerstein and viola player Paul Neubauer, as well as with the Tetzlaff and Pavel Haas quartets. Ivo Kahánek teaches at Prague’s Music Academy and has recorded thirteen CDs for the Supraton Music label with works by Chopin, Dvořák, Francaix, Ibert, Janáček, Klein and Martinů.
