"Igor Levit hasn't even taken his examinations, however without the grades it is already clear: This young man not only has the stuff to become one of the great pianists of this century. He has already achieved it." (Eleonore Büning in the Frankfurt Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, May 2010.)
Igor Levit, born 1987 in Nizhni Nowgorod, began to play piano at the age of 3. Already at the age of 6 he played with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nizhni Nowgorod. When he was 8 years old, he moved with his family to Germany. Currently, he is completing his study in Hanover, where he has studied with Bernd Goetzke, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and Matti Raekallio. Igor Levit completed further studies with Hans Leygraf in Salzburg. In 2005 Igor Levit won - as youngest partipant at the International Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition - four distinctions at once. In 2004, when he was only 16 years old, he received second prize at the International Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens and in Japan first prize at the International Hamamatsu Piano Academy Competition. Already Levit is collaborating with such famous orchestras as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR Symphony Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
