Hans H. Suh was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1990 and has been playing the piano since he was four. He performed in public and was awarded First Prize at the Korea Times Music Competition at the age of seven. This opened the door to other recitals, some of which were broadcast on television. He moved to the US in 2000 and was the winner at the New York Philharmonic Young Artist Audition the following year. Between 2001 and 2009, he was a grant-holder at the Mannes College of Music where he studied under Professor Yuri Kim and Professor Vladimir Feltsman. Subsequently, he studied Ancient History at Columbia University as a Distinguished John Jay Scholar and deepened his piano studies at the Julliard School under Professor Matti Raekallio and Professor Emanuel Ax in the scope of an exchange program.
His successes at the 8th Internationaler Deutscher Pianistenpreis held in Frankfurt in 2018, at the 2016 edition of the Concours Reine-Élisabeth and at the 2016 Isang Yun International Music Competition (First Prize and Special Prize) led him to performances in the world’s greatest venues, including Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Merkin Saal im Kaufman Center, Hitachi Systems Hall Sendai and the Seoul Arts Center.
Hans H. Suh was also awarded Second Prize and the Silver Medal at the 2013 Sendai International Music Competition and Second Prize at the 2017 Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition. Moreover, he took part in the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox and performed with great orchestras (New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) directed by such outstanding artists as Kurt Masur, Ken-David Masur, Michael Adelson, Myung-Whun Chung and Pascal Verrot.
