Moving and piano transport

Moving and piano transport

Whoever transports his upright or grand piano himself is to blame when he later has to complain about a back problem or if the instrument is damaged. A professional piano-mover helps. What must one observe when moving?

Moving your instrument should not be done by you, but by a piano mover - even within your own home. Upright and grand pianos are both heavy and cumbersome. On the other hand, they are very precise and delicately balanced mechanical instruments, anything but ordinary pieces of furniture. A move may be dangerous to the legs of a grand piano due to improper lifting or unilateral pressure. Also consider that the rollers can leave marks on a wooden floor. Get the advice of at least one piano-mover, who can give you necessary tips and help you with an in-house relocation.Moving your instrument should not be made by you, but by a piano mover - even within your own home. Good piano transporters have the necessary experience and equipment and should be insured against damage. Please note that damage caused by improper transportation is not covered by factory warranty. A piano-mover requires accurate information about the building situation, such as floors, elevators, stair landing rotation angle, etc. both for pickup and delivery. For moves during the cold season, an air-conditioned truck is needed for longer journeys, because the surface lacquer could crack under extreme cold. At the destination, the room for the piano should be heated slowly at first. Our authorized retail partners can recommend a good piano-mover to you.

After transport by an experienced piano-mover, the piano should stand at least one week at its new location before it is tuned. A good piano tuner can also adjust your instrument to the acoustic characteristics in the house.
