International Horowitz competition 2011

First held in 1995, the International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz is one of the most important events of its kind in the world. At the 2011 edition, the competitors in the Junior category performed on a C. Bechstein concert grand.

Although most of the participants in the ninth Horowitz competition came from the Ukraine, the top three prizes in the Junior category went to China: Bolai Cao (1st prize), Tian Yuan Liu (2nd prize) and Wang Yinuo (3rd prize). The top-class panel of judges chaired by Valeriy Kozlov (Ukraine) comprised Valida Rassoulova-Suk (USA), Graham Scott (Great Britain), Barbara Szczepanska (Germany) and Lev Shugom (Russian Federation). Barbara Szczepanska, a professor at the Robert Schumann School of Music and Media where she also runs the “Schumann Junior” centre for highly gifted students, praised the “very high standard” of the competition.
