Mauro Tortorelli (violin) and Angela Meluso (piano)
When he was only sixteen years old Mauro Tortorelli attended the advanced violin course al the Accademia Musicale Chigiana and was awarded his diploma with distinction. He then gratueted from the Conservatory with top marks; he attended master classes at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Jean-Jacques Kantorow and continued to perfect his technique with Georg Monch, with whom he made his debut in 1990 at Milan's "Teatro Alla Scala" with a piece for two violins by Nono.
He was the outright first-prize winner with mention of honour at the international competition "Isola di Capri" and a finalist in the "G.B.Viotti" international violin competition, and has been invited to perform as a soloist with several orchestras and prestigious musical associations: Slovakian State Philharmonic Orchestra, European Youth Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Nuova Scarlatti, Dublin Philharmonic, Teatro Alla Scala in Milan, Teatro Gonfalone and Teatro Ghione in Rome, Auditorium RAI in Naples, Alghero Festival, Pontino Festival, Ravello Festival, Salzburger Schlosskonzerte, Barattelli Association, Kennedy Center in Washington (USA), Moscow Conservatory, Schoenberg Center in Vienna, Dubai Knowledge Village Auditorium etc.
As well as his solo repertoire, he also devotes interest to chamber music. He has recorded on various labels: Nuova Era, Musikstrasse, Camerata Tokio, Aulos (Korea), Bongiovanni and for Tactus an important discovery of the Camillo Sivori’s works for violin and piano and Gaetano Fusella’s works for violin and piano.
He has taught at several conservatories, Academies and master classes. In 2001 and 2005 he was invited to hold a Master Class at prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and now teaches violin at the Music Conservatory in Potenza. Recently, M. Tortorelli has been invited at the Sessa Aurunca Chamber Music Festival directed by Rainer Kussmaul, playing with members of the Berliner Philarmoniker and Monaco Philarmoniker.
Angela Meluso began studying piano at age five and she graduated with honours at the Conservatory of Music “A. Vivaldi” of Alessandria. She won the eleventh edition of the “Premio Ghislieri” coming first in the piano section. She has attended specialization studies at the Accademia in Florence with Lazar Berman, at the Accademia Hipponiana of Reggio Calabria with Vincenzo Balzani and for chamber music with Mauro Tortorelli, Giacomo Fuga, E. Bagnoli, Trio di Trieste and Trio di Parma (DuinoAccademy).
She has taken part in national and international competitions winning first prize with special honours at the “Orfeo Stillo” di Paola competition (ed. 2003), third prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Barletta (ed. 2004) and first prize as a soloist at the “Orfeo Stillo” competition (ed.2006).
As a soloist she has performed at Beethoven’s House in Vienna and in a duo with the clarinettist Guido Arbonelli at the Festival Internationale di Musica Contemporanea in Tirana. She has also performed in various prestigious theatres such as Teatro Rendano in Cosenza, Teatro Revoltella in Trieste, Teatro Piscator in Catania, Teatro Umberto in Lamezia Terme, Teatro in Porec (Croatia), Dubai Knowledge Village Auditorium etc.
She have recorded whit Mauro Tortorelli unpublished works for violin and piano of Gaetano Fusella and Camillo Sivori and in next publication the Rosario Scalero’works (Tactus Label).
