Ewa Kupiec | Bechstein Piano Recital

Ewa Kupiec | Bechstein Piano Recital
19.01.2014|19:00|Theater am Marientor
A few days before the 100th birthday of Witold Lutoslawski the Bechstein piano recital with Ewa Kupiec is also a tribute to this great Polish composer who has promoted and crucially influenced the career of this exceptional pianist. "A true revelation" raved Lutoslawski of Kupiec’s virtuosity and natural individuality.

In Lutosławski's earlier sonata as well as in the "Pièces impromtues" of the Romanian composer George Enescu you can clearly hear the influence of the French Impressionists. Ewa Kupiec appreciates programs that make such musical contexts understandable - not just didactic, but in a sensual way. She cherishes a close connection to Chopin, Lutoslawski, and other Polish composers.

The intensive collaboration between Kupiec and the Polish conductor Stanislaw Skrowaczewski has produced an excellent reference recording of the two Chopin concerts. Among the conductors with whom she has worked are Marin Alsop, Neeme Järvi, Xian Zhang, Sakari Oramo, Semyon Bychkov, Herbert Blomstedt, Krzysztof Penderecki, Zubin Mehta, Gilbert Varga, Christoph Poppen, Andrey Boreyko and Marek Janowski. Ewa Kupiec has won the ARD Prize in 1992 and studied in Katowice, Warsaw and London. Since 2011 she is a professor at the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover.

"Kupiec’s performances are a rare mixture of temperament, limitless technique, creative capacity and a complete pervasion of musical structure while delivering the highest levels of transparency and an impressive richness of color. Her playing is brilliant but unobtrusive, atmospheric, dense and subtly virtuosic. "
(Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) At this special evening the sonic spectrum, power and subtle nuances of the Bechstein concert grand will be available to the outstanding pianist.
