Danae and Kiveli Dörken
„A poet at the piano” is how the newspaper “Die Welt” described Danae Dörken’s playing at a young age. Born to German and Greek parents in Wuppertal, Germany in 1991, Dörken grew up in a non-musical family. She began taking lessons with Marina Kheifets at the age of five and won her first piano competition six months later.
In 2002, Danae took part in a master class with the renowned pedagogue Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, who offered her a place in his regular class. She continued to study with Kämmerling until his death in 2012 and now continues her education with famous pianist Lars Vogt. Dörken won numerous prizes at national and international competitions. At the first International Competition for Young Musicians in Enschede, the Netherlands, a “Prix Unique” was established in honour of her outstanding performance as the youngest competitor; the prize has since been awarded every year.
Dörken has already performed throughout Europe, China and the US. She appears regularly at festivals such as the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, Kissinger Sommer and Schwetzinger Festspiele and has performed with Camerata Bern, the Düsseldorf Philharmonic, and the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra of Polish Radio.
In addition, Dörken is an avid supporter of youth projects such as “Rhapsody in school”. In 2012, she released her debut CD with piano works by Leoš Janáček. Since some years, she performs together with her sister Kiveli as a piano duo. They performed together at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf and at the Kölner Philharmonie.
Kiveli Dörken was born in Düsseldorf in 1995 and received her first piano instruction at the age of five from Marina Kheifets too. She also was a student of Prof. Karl-Heinz Kämmerling and pursues her studies with Prof. Lars Vogt.
In 2005, Kiveli Dörken obtained the First Prize as youngest participant at the International EPTA Competition in Croatia, two years later she won the International Piano Competition Rotary-Jugend Musikpreis.
Kiveli Dörken made her orchestra concert debut at the age of eight.
