Trio Panta Rhei plays jazz-inspired works
If you love trio music, you will be delighted with this SACD from 2011 published on the Ars Produktion label. Trio Panta Rhei — that is, the violinist Gudrun Pagel, the cellist Sonja Asselhofen and the pianist Julia Vaisberg — have collected works and arrangements that form a symbiosis of serious and entertaining music. As the booklet aptly remarks, their “sophisticated use of the full range of classical expression is anything but boring!”
The remarkable trio has selected jazz-inspired works: Symphonic Dances from Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, Daniel Schnyder’s Worlds Beyond, a concert fantasia on themes from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, Kapustin’s Trio, op. 86, and even a work by Gene Pritsker, an inveterate wanderer between the musical styles that was born in 1972.
The CD was recorded on the C. Bechstein D 280 concert grand piano at the concert venue of Düsseldorf’s regional physicians’ association.
