"Abendmusik" on Bechstein
In 2009, the French pianist Claire Désert recorded a CD for the label Mirare entitled Abendmusik. Recorded on a C. Bechstein D 282 concert grand, it captures the very essence of German romanticism as it includes Robert Schumann’s three “Stücklein” and eleven “Albumblätter” from the Bunten Blättern op. 99, carefully combined with Clara Schumann-Wieck’s Variations sur un thème de Robert Schumann op. 20 and the Variations sur un thème de Brahms “attributed to Ms Clara Schumann”.
At home in the romantic genre, Claire Désert plays the intimate mood pieces with great poetry yet shows herself more than capable of producing the emotional exuberance of the more vigorous pieces. The wonderfully crisp, rounded Bechstein sound lends the recording added appeal.
